The airport www.busseltonmar- garetriverairport.com.au now has approval for RPT, FIFO and other charter services between 6am and midnight, as well as five flights weekly between midnight and 6am. Aircraft operators will still need to comply with a noise manage- ment plan. The City of Busselton www.bus- selton.wa .gov.au had been working for more than three years to im- prove air services for the benefit of the region’s residents and its growing number of visitors. The council’s proposals covered not only changes to the standard hours of operation but also the introduction of additional aircraft and operator types. Busselton’s airport is being fur- ther developed in a project involv- ing the state and federal govern- ments (including the Department of Transport’s regional airports development scheme), City of Bus- selton, South West Development Commission and Tourism WA. Helping drive the facility’s eco- nomic viability will be an increase in FIFO flights to resource sites around Western Australia, com- plementing Perth - the major FIFO base - and some other regional centres. Busselton now has a FIFO coun- cillor who was recently given the green light to participate in coun- cil meetings by video-link from the Pilbara.
