The city council is determined to make its event cal- endar a long-term affair and to bolster this, executives are expanding a program called Everlasting Partnership which got under way in 2014 as a means of involving corporates and community groups in providing facili- ties and special projects. Shane Van Styn, the city mayor, said the first ventures were for much-needed and appre- ciated facilities. “Since then a wide range of local organisations, businesses and industry have partnered with the city to fund events such as Australia Day and the WOW Fest or programs such Films on the Foreshore, the Mid West Art Prize and Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival. “More recently though, we’ve seen a real increase in not-for- profit organisations interested in supporting environmental pro- jects such as the Chapman River Regional Park Biodiversity Survey and community groups wanting to enhance and look after public open spaces.” The idea is for a corporate, a local service group or anyone else interested to sign up in support of an event or facility. It can be either one-offs or long-term: The ‘Ever- lasting’ in the name refers to the legacy of the arrangement rather than open-ended support .
