My first real job: Receptionist at Kartika Plaza Beach Hotel, Bali (now Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel). I am very good at: Always striving to do the best I can. My toughest assignment: In charge of re-housing all existing and incoming guests during triple holiday seasons (Moslem Rooftop plunge pools at the Fashion Hotel Legian. holiday, Christmas and New year) in December 2000 when the hotel I worked at was closed down for six months due to employee strike action. I ensured all guests were accommodated in alternative hotels and at the same time minimised losses for my hotel by comparing rate differences with other hotels. I enjoy: Meeting guests and finding how I can make their stay more enjoyable. I am not so keen on: Travelling on small boats (I suffer from sea sickness). Best advice I was given: No-one can work alone, we need effective teams. I really need to: Finish my Masters degree in Tourism Business. My proudest achievement: When guests return repeatedly to the hotel. Greatest inspiration: My daughter wrote three mini novels of a teenag- er love story. This inspired me to continue writing. Advice to anyone starting a career: Enjoy what you are doing with a passion and learn from well-experienced predecessors. To relax: I have foot reflexology after a tiring day. My dream vacation: To take my family to travel round Australia and/or European countries. Favourite/best value trade show: Bali & Beyond Travel Fair. The agents already in Bali can visit and inspect Bali hotels any time during their stay. Being held locally, Bali hotels save on expenses for airfare and accommo- dation. Favourite airline: Garuda Indonesia Airways, as it has gone through chal- lenges and been awarded the world’s best cabin airline and compliance with 5 star ranking. Favourite hotel resort: The Royal Pita Maha, Ubud Bali.
