Page 2 • MICEBTN - DEC 2016 - FEB 2017 It’s showtime – ICC Sydney opens with Keith Urban and Brickman In just seven days, it’s showtime for ICC Sydney as we officially open our doors and help cement our city’s reputation as one of the most desirable event destinations in the world. As Australia’s premier convention, exhibition and entertainment precinct, ICC Sydney is truly one of a kind. It features a striking contemporary design, state of the art technology and unprecedented flexibil- ity to cater to the changing architecture of meetings and events, all situated in the heart of Sydney. This enviable central location and the pur- pose-built facilities mean visiting delegates will be immersed in an environment that has been designed to foster collaboration, will experience our local culture, and will be seamlessly connected with the city’s key business, academic, startup, media, technol- ogy, cultural and financial hubs. ICC Sydney will itself become a hub of innovation and entertainment, year round. It can host three major conventions simultaneously, each with its own dedicated plenary, meeting rooms and catering areas, plus a dedicated support team and integrat- ed exhibition spaces. It is also home to three impressive theatres, including the 9,000-ca - pacity (8,000 seat) ICC Sydney Theatre, plus 70 meeting rooms, a massive 5,000sqm Event Deck, 35,000sqm of internal exhibition space and Australia’s largest ballroom. Representing a A$1.5 billion investment, this venue will clearly transform the way events are delivered and increase the nation’s market share in the industry. More than 400 events have already been secured Geoff Donaghy, CEO of International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), director of Convention Centres at AEG Ogden and president of the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC), discusses the impact ICC Sydney will have on New South Wales and the MICE industry when it opens on 20 December. and these shows will play a pivotal role in boosting business tourism here. Indeed, tens of millions of people attend these events across Australia every year, generating billions in direct expenditure. During Sibos alone, more than 8,000 international delegates are expected to visit Sydney, injecting up to A$50 million into the local economy. Overall, ICC Sydney is set to provide over A$5 billion of incremental economic benefit to New South Wales over the next 25 years. I don’t have the words to express my pride in ICC Sydney as we prepare for its launch on 20 December, and of course it would not have been possible without the support of our amazing team and partners. I’d like to thank the Darling Harbour Live consortium comprising Lendlease, Host- plus, First State Super, Capella Capital, AEG Ogden and Spotless FM, in partnership with the NSW Government, along with Tourism Australia, Destination NSW, City of Sydney, Infrastructure NSW, Business Events Sydney and everyone else who has supported us in our journey. With our dress rehearsals completed and the curtain about to rise, it’s time for ICC Sydney to shine on the world stage. Feeding your performance Nutrition is a key factor in business success, as it not only enables bodies to remain healthy but supports improved concentra- tion and energy levels. At ICC Sydney, the world class team has embraced an industry-first ‘Feeding Your Performance ‘philosophy to deliver ‘smart’ menus comprising fresh, seasonal and ethi- cally-sourced ingredients, expertly combined to drive physical and mental performance. Dishes are high in protein and low in saturated fats to help boost alertness and enable delegates to work more effectively. The hallmarks of great food are balance, quality, freshness and taste and this too is reflected in ICC Sydney’s ap- proach, which puts premium local produce, including heritage varieties that are bursting with flavour, at the heart of dishes. In order to deliver this consistently, ICC Sydney has committed to working with regional farmers to create quintessential Sydney cuisine that showcases the best New South Wales has to offer. With a distinguished in- house culinary team and a world-leading approach, ICC Sydney is clearly setting a new culinary standard for the events industry.
