He will be responsible for key ac- count management and the acquisition of new accounts, working in tandem with the Asia Pacific Commercial team. McConnell was most recently the global account director with Lang- ham Hospitality Group, where he was responsible for the management of the leisure, travel, MICE and entertainment markets for its global portfolio. He is based in Sydney and reports to Cathy O’Connor, senior director, Global Sales – MICE, Asia Pacific. # Singapore-based luxury hotel group Como Hotels and Resorts has appoint- ed Javier Beneyto, to manage the opening of the company’s latest devel- opment project, the Como Echo Beach, Bali with a scheduled opening in 2017. Beneyto previously was manager of the company’s property in Miami, US. In another move Santiago Sagaz has been appointed general manager for Como Shambhala Estate, Bali. Sagaz joins Como Shambhala Estate from Bulgari Resort in Bali where he was general manager # Alexandre de Juniac, chairman and ceo of Air France-KLM has been con- firmed as the successor to tony tyler as IATA’s director general and ceo, effective 01 September 2016. IAG ceo willie walsh succeeds Andres Conesa, ceo of Aeromexico as chairman of the IATA Board of Gov- ernors for a one-year term until the conclusion of IATA’s 73rd annual general meeting (agm) in Cancun, Mexico, 4-6 June 2017, hosted by Aeromexico. Next year’s AGM will be the third time the agm is held in Mexico, following meetings in Mexico City in 1994 and 1966. # Accor Hotels Australia has confirmed the appointments of the following gen- eral managers: Jeremy Healy has been appointed to the position of general manager, Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour. He was pre- viously general manager at The Como Melbourne MGallery. nathan Frost joins Novotel Canberra. His most recent role was general man- ager, Ibis Adelaide. Jeremy Samuels joins Ibis Adelaide. His most recent role was executive assistant manager at Mercure Sydney central. # Austrian national Kurt wehinger has been appointed area general manager Oceania for Pan Pacific Hotels Group (PPHG) with a concurrent appointment as general manager of ParkRoyal Dar- ling Harbour, Sydney. Wehinger was most previously the general manager of the Marina Man- darin Singapore, a position he held for more than six years. In his role he will be responsible for driving the financial performance and operations for the Group’s hotels in Oceania. # Holiday Inn Resort Bali Benoa has named industry veteran Franck Rodri- guez as its new general manager. With more than 18 years in hospitality, Rodriguez started his career in London and further diversified into South East Asia and China. He brings with him a sol- id background and detailed understand- ing of resort and hotel operations. He recently was director of Operations at the Unique Collection Hotels & Resorts, managing 27 hotels and resorts across Thailand and Burma. # Cindy Goo has recently been ap- pointed director of Sales and Marketing at Holiday Inn® Singapore Atrium. Goo has more than 15 year’s experi- ence in various established hotels in Sin- gapore, including the Park Hotel Group and Carlton Hotel Singapore. Most recently she was the director of Sales and Marketing at Studio M Singapore. # Metro Hotels has appointed Kelly Barnett business development manager for Queensland and Northern Territory. Barnett will be responsible for maintaining and growing the domestic leisure, corporate and government busi- ness for Metro Hospitality Group’s prop- erties in Brisbane, Ipswich, Gladstone and Northern Territory. She reports to Metro Hotels director of sales and mar- keting Rachel Pirie. Prior to taking up this position, Barnett worked in sales and marketing for The Pier Hotel. # Continued next page.
